Following a lengthy legal process, the Local Planning Appeal Tribunal (LPAT) has ruled in favour of the City of Toronto’s Short-Term Rental Regulations. This is a significant and precedent-setting win for the hotel industry.
Susie Grynol, HAC President, delivered an address at the Association Hôtellerie Québec’s 2019 Congress, reporting on HAC’s progress on short-term rentals, its new labour program, membership, new member programs and the Association’s new bilingualism policy.
HAC’s Director of Government Relations, Alana Baker, delivered the opening keynote at the Tourism Industry Association of Prince Edward Island’s 2019 Annual Conference. Her presentation centered on short rental regulations and the possibilities for PEI.
Last week, the Government of Québec announced new regulations that will apply to short-term rentals in the Province. Effective May 1, 2020, owners of a principal residence will be subject to a provincial lodging tax and must obtain a registration number. Anyone renting a secondary suite will require additional certifications. Congratulations to the Association Hôtellerie Québec on their success in achieving modernized regulations and fair rules for Québec hotels.
Climate action is moving to the forefront of business decision-making. Green Key Global’s Gary Graham and Rebecca Bartlett-Jones spoke at the Sustainable Events Forum in Toronto, underscoring the value of HAC’s Green Key Global program as a leader in third party certification for hotels.
