Government Responds to Rural Workforce Pressures
The Government of Canada has announced new Temporary Foreign Worker Program (TFWP) measures. This is a direct response to concerns Canada’s hotel industry has raised with government.
The new adjustments will permit eligible rural employers to retain their current number of low-wage temporary foreign workers and temporarily increase the allowable share of low-wage temporary foreign workers from 10% to 15% of their workforce in eligible rural regions.
After months of discussion with the government, we are pleased they listened to industry recommendations and introduced targeted changes to address the impact federal policies have had on hotels. This is a positive step forward for Canada’s hotel industry and the communities our members support.
We will continue working with the government, while remaining committed to attracting and developing domestic talent, to ensure hotel and tourism operators across the country have access to the workforce needed to support Canada’s growing economy.
We will continue to work with the Federal Government on these new measures and will update members as needed.
