Coalition internationale de l’industrie hôtelière appelle à une prolongation à long terme de l’Accord Canada–États-Unis–Mexique

OTTAWA, ON | MEXICO CITY | WASHINGTON (DC) July 20 2026 – Following the conclusion of the 2026 World Cup co-hosted by Canada, Mexico and the United States, the American Hotel & Lodging Association (AHLA), Hotels Canada and Hoteles por México have issued a joint call for a long-term extension of the Canada-United States-Mexico Agreement (CUSMA), emphasizing that the prosperity of the North American hotel industry is closely linked to and relies on policies that facilitate cross-border travel.
The successful organization of the world’s largest sporting event in Canada, Mexico, and the United States highlighted the strength of a united North America and the vital role of seamless travel between the three countries. With over six million spectators attending the games, hotels and local businesses welcomed a significant influx of visitors, demonstrating that travel stimulates economic growth, supports millions of jobs, and strengthens the interdependence of the hospitality sectors and economies of the three countries.
A long-term extension of the USMCA would capitalize on this momentum by providing businesses with the stability needed to invest, strengthen integrated supply chains, promote workforce mobility, and maintain North America’s competitiveness as a leading destination for business and leisure travel.
“A strong North American partnership provides businesses with the predictability they need, helps keep travel affordable, and strengthens one of the world’s most integrated tourism economies,” said Rosanna Maietta, President and CEO of AHLA. “As discussions continue on the future of the USMCA, we urge negotiators to build on this momentum by supporting a long-term extension of this landmark agreement.”
“Our three countries have an opportunity to capitalize on the relationships and economic momentum created by this historic event,” added Beth McMahon, President and CEO of Hotels Canada. “Extending the USMCA will provide the long-term stability needed to strengthen travel, encourage investment, and support cross-border supply chains so that North America remains the world’s leading destination for business and leisure travel.”
“Travel is one of North America’s greatest shared economic forces. By extending the USMCA, our three countries will be able to continue growing together, supporting employment, developing tourism, strengthening supply chains and creating new opportunities for communities on both sides of each border,” said Jorge Paoli Díaz, president of Hoteles por México.
The USMCA also strengthens the resilient supply chains that hotels rely on every day. From food and beverages served in hotel restaurants to furniture, linens, and operational supplies, cross-border trade helps ensure a reliable supply of essential goods while helping hotels and travelers control their costs.
Furthermore, the agreement promotes workforce mobility throughout North America. Provisions facilitating temporary business travel, including the issuance of TN-1 visas to hotel managers, allow establishments to recruit experienced managers, promote the sharing of expertise across borders, and develop the skilled workforce needed to meet growing demand.
